Analysts see 'upside surprise' as convention attendance rises

A report by Union Gaming Research termed the January convention performance an "upside surprise" based on three big shows posting increased attendance from one year ago.
The International Consumer Electronics show at 140,000 people, the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show at 57,390 and the winter market at the World Market Center at 53,000 all ran higher than last year.
Union Gaming discounted the roughly 10 percent decline at the World of Concrete, saying it was influenced by another major construction show being scheduled for Las Vegas in March.
Union Gaming calculated that total convention attendance ran 14,000 above previous estimates. The firm figures this meant an extra $10 million in revenues for resorts and boosted hotel occupancy by 1.3 percentage points.
